Birds make plane land in Hudson river - photo gallery

Two or three minutes after taking off La Guardia airport in New York, an Airbus A-320 airplane goes straight into a flock of birds. Both engines crash instantaneously. The pilot alerts the passengers - 155 people - he's going to try an emergency landing into the Hudson river, close to New York.

The landing was a success, so everybody made it safe off the air but... the drama was only about to begin. The plane was slowly sinking into the freezing water.

Once in the river, the passengers climbed on the wings of the plane waiting to be rescued. Which happened eventually. More on that story HERE.

There would be one more thing to say. The pilot, Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger became a hero in the US for the way he handled things. More on that, HERE.
